Get started with Novel

Learn how to get up and running quickly, and start making your story shine.

What is Novel?

Novel is your personal dedicated hub for all things related to your career. You can build strong profiles, create video profiles, keep track of your career goals, your job applications, your interviews, your job offers, and your career progress, along with storing your professional documents. You can also access targeted, AI-based assistance to intelligently guide all your efforts.

Setting up

To get started with Novel, you'll need to create an account. You can do this by clicking the Sign up button in the top right corner of the page, or any button marked Get started or Sign up now. You'll be asked to enter your email address and a password, or you can sign up using an existing Google account.

The first time you sign in, you'll be asked to set up your account. Enter your name, then choose your primary goal for Novel (jobs, projects, or other career goals). Finally, enter some details about your current professional function and your experience level.

You can change this at any time afterwards through your Settings dialog.

Once you've set up your account, you'll be taken to your dashboard. The first thing you'll notice is the Guide card: giving you step-by-step instructions on how to get started with Novel.

Start by setting up your profile. You can easily populate your profile by uploading an existing resume, or you can create items one-by-one. Click the Profile link in the sidebar to navigate to the profile page. You can seamlessly add items of all kinds here, ranging from skills, experience, education and more. Once you've populated your profile, you can create Editions to showcase different versions of your profile, for different purposes. Once you've created a profile, make your first video profile.

You can record video profiles with Novel. Access the recorder directly from the dashboard, from the profile page, or from the video profiles page. Look for the

button to record videos. You can record as many video profiles as you like. Once you've recorded a video profile, you can move on to creating your first journal.

Journals are dedicated hubs centered around career goals you're trying to achieve, like finding jobs, finding projects, looking for consulting gigs, and so on. The journal menu is available in the sidebar, and you can create a new journal by clicking the Create a new journal button. You'll be able to choose from templates which automatically assign a relevant goal and a generated sharing link for your complete profile. Start quickly by choosing a template for what you're trying to achieve.

Sharing links are associated with journals. Creating a journal automatically gives you a sharing link you can use. Anybody who gets your sharing link will be able to see your profile, and your video profile. You'll be able to control which edition and which video profile you share, among other options.

You can share your profile from two places:-

  • From the dashboard: When you have journals, you'll see the journal card. Select a journal from the your list, and you'll see a button marked Share in the bottom right corner of the card.

  • From the journal page: Click the Share button in the top right corner of the first card on the journal page.

You'll be able to use Novel to track job applications, project bids, and more. These are called journal entries. You can create a journal entry from a journal page. Click the Create a new entry button to get started. Within entries, you'll be able to manage each of your career efforts step-by-step.
