Using your journal entry

An active entry page.

Entries give you the tools to tackle individual initiatives like job applications, project bids, consulting initiatives, and more — any individual effor you make towards your goal can be tracked here.

Starting off

Starting an entry.

An entry is divided into stages. Stages represent each signficant step of your initiative. For example, if you're applying for a job, you might have stages like Application Submission, Interview, Offer, and so on.

Each stage has a status that represents your progress. The status can be either Ongoing, or Completed.

Once a stage is Completed, you can contextually mark its success, (or failure). A successful stage allows you to proceed to the next stage.

Adding a stage

To add a stage, click the Add Stage button. You will be provided with a stages based on which type of entry you've selected, i.e. job applications, project bids, consulting initiatives, and pitches will all have different stage types.

Clicking the Add Stage button for the first time will give you this screen:

Creating a stage.

Press the save button to save your stage. You can also cancel.

Now, your entry has started. There's two main items on the screen:

  • The stage feed: An activitiy feed displaying a list of your stages. You can click on each stage's icon to view details.

  • The actions panel: To the left (on the bottom on mobile screens), you'll see the actions panel of the entry page. This will contextually change based on actions you take.

Using the stage feed

The stage feed.

The stage feed is a list of your stages. Each stage has a status icon, a title. You can click on each stage's icon to view its details.

You can click on a stage's icon to select that stage. You'll be able to perform intelligent, contextual actions here, like setting/completing tasks, writing material, and editing the details of your stage. The type of writing material and details will differ based on whether the stage is completed or not. You can also attach/upload files from Novel to each stage, so you'll have an easy reference to what files or media were relevant to the stage.

The primary action you can take on an ongoing stage is pressing the Mark as completed button to complete the stage. Once you've marked a stage as completed, you'll be able to determine its success or failure. Click one of the contextual buttons marking success or failure.

You can reactivate stages at any time by marking them as ongoing. Press the

button to see options to either change the outcome or mark the completed stage as ongoing.

Marking a stage as unsuccessful will end the entry, marking it as complete and disallowing you from proceeding to the next stage.

You can keep moving through stages until you reach the final set stage for your entry type. Reaching the final stage denotes a succesful entry.

If you want to delete a stage, you'll have to delete them one-by-one. By design, only the recent-most stage can be deleted at any time.

Using the actions panel

The actions panel.

The actions panel is a contextual panel that changes based on the actions you take. Here, by default, you'll see the stage's details. Whether you select Tasks, Writing, Creating a new stage, uploading files, or novelist, the actions panel will reflect the selected action.
